Procession in Parga

Parga, Greece, august 6, 2003, 20:12.
In the church stands an icon of Maria, mother of Jezus, who's soul leaves her dead body and rises to heaven.

20:12. Outside of the church, the people of Parga wait until the procession begins. The blue flags represent Greece, the yellow flags represent the orthodox church.

20:14. The brass band is (almost) ready.

20:53. The procession arrives in the port. Priests walk in front of the icon.

20:56. The main part of the procession goes on board.

21:07. The icon is brought to the church on the island. There it will stay for three weeks.

Geweldig! Ik zocht een plaatje van een ikoon, kwam deze tegen en vond het tafereeltje al zo bekend voorkomen.
Wij zijn griekenlandfans, en ook in Parga geweest. Mooi!
Bedankt!
